Plan the hallway before packing the kitchen.
Apartment moves are often won or lost before the truck arrives. Parking, elevators, stairs and office rules matter just as much as the number of boxes.
Ask the leasing office first
- Are move-ins limited to specific days or hours?
- Do you need to reserve an elevator or loading area?
- Is a certificate of insurance required from a professional mover?
- Where can a delivery vehicle or trailer park?
- Can rental crates be left with the leasing office or in another approved location?
- Which doors, gates and elevators require a code or key?
Choose containers for tight spaces
Uniform reusable crates can be easier to stage in an apartment than mixed cardboard boxes. They stack consistently, the attached lids do not require tape, and empty crates nest together after unpacking. Keep walkways and exits clear, and never build stacks that could tip.
Build a landing zone
Choose one room or wall for arriving containers. Label by destination room, keep frequently needed items visible, and leave enough space to move the dolly. If the apartment is upstairs, use smaller loads and make additional trips instead of overloading containers.
Protect the building
- Use floor runners where weather or landscaping may track inside.
- Protect corners and elevator doors without blocking safety sensors.
- Do not prop secure doors open longer than necessary.
- Follow the property’s trash, recycling and quiet-hour rules.
- Complete the move-in condition report before furniture hides walls and flooring.
